Gibson Peghead

The Golden Era of the Gibson Thinlines

Here we have an exceeedingly rare example of a very cool 1962 ES-355TDSV.

First, it is sunburst. Second, it has bound f-holes. Third, it has a stinger. And last, though not as rare, it has a sideways vibrola unit, sometimes called the "Flash Gordon" tailpiece for its deco look.

The owner states, "This is the last of a small eclectic collection of electrics given to me by my father who recently died. As I recall, he probably bought this one new at a local mom and pop shop owned by one of his buddies that he played swing music with back in the '30's and 40's. This was his last electric guitar. I have a photo of him with it that dates to 1977 or early 1978 and the pickup covers had already been removed. They are double black PAF's. This guitar is the only old ES I've seen with bound f-holes and the back of the headstock finished in black laquer. The label reads "TDSV" but someone apparently re-wired it to mono decades ago. The side-pull vibrato works great and the ebony board is true and smooth as a baby's backside."

This great and rare example is supplied courtesy of Rob Kline. Thanks Rob.
