Gibson Peghead

The Golden Era of the Gibson Thinlines

Factory records indicate that one EB-2 left the factory in black on July 22, 1958. Here it is. How cool is that?

This bass has the monster single coil pickup of the early EBs, which was later changed to a humbucker, as can be seen on the natural example from 1959. According to its owner, this is one of the best playing vintage EB-2s he has tried.

Standard banjo tuners as found on all early Gibson basses. Note the CS designation on the label indicating a cutom color.

Special thanks to Rick Norman, Dr. Vintage, for these photos, and to my good friend and Les Paul Forum member mcloudnine for letting us share this great, unique Gibson bass.
